The Founding Fathers have renewed hopes for the B-Grade season with a convincing 149 - 118 three skin win over second place Yallops. The win comes off the back of five straight losses and improves the Fathers season opening stand to two wins and seven losses.
Gladdy (Captain) won the toss and elected to take advantage of an early flat wicket. The Fathers were keen and could be accused of being Joe Dakky-esk in the vacant court polishing their bowling and working some minor niggles out of their batting form while the match progressed.
Match highlights included an opening partnership of 45 in which only one wicket fell and Our Kylie amassed 23 with Gladdy close behind on 22.
Nads (26) and Itchy (22) followed suit and upped the ante with a second partnership tally of 48 for the loss of only two wickets. Itchy appears to have regained his form of last season's encampment where he smashed a tidy 48 on the beach despite a serious, self inflicted, short term mystery virus.
The only stumble in the Fathers batting line-up came in the premier partnership (11) of Norris (16) and Gilly (pretty good). The numbers flattered Norris who was successful in running out his partner at least once and probably another.
Hugo (19) and KEVIN! (26) steadied the ship with 45 in the final partnership and the Fathers had set a daunting total of 149.
Gladdy ran a tight, well organised crew in the field, leading by example and seemed to have all the answers with well timed bowling changes. The Fathers collected the first two skins and it was all looking too easy until another premiership partnership stumble allowing 62 runs. Yallops had rallied needing only 40 runs from the final partnership when a bad dose of the Yips was adminstered by death bowlers Hugo (1 for 4), Kylie (3 for -5), Gladdy (1 for -2) and KEVIN! (2 for 11). The Fathers would have been most pleased to see Gladdy rattle the dreadlock dickhead's stumps in the penultimate over.
Man of the match honours went to Gladdy (2 for -3). Batting honurs to Nads (26) and KEVIN! (26).
The midnight beers flowed in the carpark notwithstanding the subzero amenity. FINES were duly adminstered to Gladdy (no ice), Hugo (sitter of the match), Our Kylie and Gilly (failing to take the hat trick), and a special, in absentia, retrospective FINE to the Snorkmeister for spitting the dummy at LCG management after last weeks loss. His ears must have been burning as the lads had a healthy dig in his absence.
